We did a thing…

6th August 2019 and we did a thing. Mark the date in your calendars, tell your friends, tattoo it on your arm. OK, maybe don’t tattoo it on your arm, that’s a bit extreme, but, for us, this is an important date. WE OFICIALLY SIGNED UP FOR THE MONGOL RALLY 2020!

I (Jen) have wanted to take part in the rally for the last 10 years or so and could not be happier that it’s finally going to be a reality. We got our team together, albeit a bit haphazarldy, 9 months ago and today we made it official by registering with the Adventurists for the rally. In just 11 months, the three of us will be taking part in the greatest motoring adventure on the planet.

What is the Mongol Rally you may ask?
The Mongol Rally is a road trip unlike any other road trip. It starts in London and there’s a finishline 18,000 km away in Ulan-Ude (East Siberian Russia). How you get between start and finish is entirely up to you. The Rally is (very losely) organised by a group aptly named ‘The Adventurists’ who describe it as “Motoring Stupidity on a Global Scale”. The whole idea is that your trip is an adventure, should be challenging, and there in lies the fun. While the majority of the rally is a bit of a free-for-all, the Adventurists have three rules:

Rule 1. You can only take a farcically small vehicle of 1 litre or less
Rule 2. You’re completely on your own
Rule 3. You’ve got to raise £1000 for charity
… simple really…

The last rule is an important one – raise money for charity. We’re taking on one heck of a challenge, and we’re hoping that by doing this, we can not only have ourselves an epic adventure, but also use the opportunity to raise awareness for a couple of epic charities that are worth attention. The official Rally charity is Cool Earth, who work alongside local communities to halt deforrestation and its impact on climate change. We’ll also be raising money for a second charity and will post more about this soon.

The first and second rules are a little more lighthearted, but no doubt a lot more daunting! The three of us will be driving 18,000 km half way across the world in a totally unsuitable car, with no mechanical skill between us and no real idea of where where going or what to expect when we get there.
We’ll be fine right?

Please support us, follow our adventures here and on instagram, dontate to our team and the charities we’re doing this all for (more info on this soon), and wish us all of the luck – we’re going to need it!
